Pipex acquires Bulldog’s broadband clientele

Sep 11, 2006

Pipex Communications plc has acquired the residential and small business broadband customer base of Cable & Wireless’ Bulldog broadband service. The deal, which involves over $12 million in cash, also covers rights to the Bulldog brand and domain names.

This acquisition brings Pipex’s total broadband base to more than 500,000. According to the company, 90% of Bulldog’s 110,000 customers subscribe to a broadband, voice and wholesale line rental package, which delivers an ARPU of £34 per month.

In a separate move, Pipex also announced that it has signed up to use Cable & Wireless’ unbundled local loop (LLU) access network, which will cover 800 exchanges. The move forms part of Pipex’s policy to use a hybrid network which is a mixture of its own Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) footprint and wholesale.
