Edinburgh Airport has unveiled the latest phase of its
development plan with the opening of its new, £19 million Southeast pier
terminal extension.
The new pier
features six new boarding gates, additional lounge facilities, extra retail
space and office accommodations. The extension increases the total number of
boarding gates at the airport from 14 to 20 and is expected to reduce the
current level of coach journeys for passengers by half.
The new pier is
part of BAA Scotland’s
long term £300-million investment in new infrastructure over the next 10 years.
This is expected to help the airport meet forecasted passenger numbers, which
is projected to rise from 8.5 million a year today to 14 million by 2013, and
as much as 26 million by 2030.
