Britons favor online loan applications, reveals Lloyds TSB study

Aug 21, 2006

In a study conducted by Lloyds TSB, it was found that almost 54 percent of Britons prefer to handle their finances online to avoid personal interaction with bankers.

The financial service provider found that about 43 percent of the respondents feel more comfortable applying loans online while 32 percent have applied for overdrafts via the Internet. Meanwhile, 32 percent of the respondents submit their credit card applications through their computers at home.

Lloyds TSB exec Anita Hockin says money was one of the few subjects that many people still feel uncomfortable talking about, even with their bank. Hockin further added that Internet banking had become increasingly popular in recent years, not just because it was convenient, but because it gave people privacy when it came to managing their money. However, she advised that sometimes it could be worth picking up the phone or calling into a branch to talk through more complex matters, especially if clients have any particular worries.
