Halifax hikes mortgage rate following base rate movement

Halifax is set to increase its standard variable rate from 6.50% to 6.75% following bank base rate adjustments recently announced by the Monetary Policy Committee.

According to Halifax, the increase for existing borrowers will take effect on September 1, 2006, the same time as the increase in savings rates. In addition, the mortgage firm warns tracker mortgage customers that they will also see a 0.25% increase in rates effective September 1, 2006.
