Easynet delivers Ethernet technology over copper network

Jul 6, 2006

Easynet has announced the UK launch EtherStream, a new service that utilizes Ethernet in the First Mile technology to deliver speeds of up to 24Mbps over an existing copper-based wide area network.

Easynet claims that this cost-effective WAN access significantly increases the availability of broadband networking access to thousands of businesses without the need to upgrade to a fibre optic network. In addition, businesses with multiple locations can use EtherStream to create an MPLS VPN at European level, the company added.

EtherStream will shortly be available at 200 exchanges across the UK – reaching 60% of all UK businesses. Easynet has signed EtherStream customers in the Netherlands including Hitachi and LG, and 11 customers in the UK, including Ambassador Theatre Group.
