Bulldog to withdraw from retail broadband market

Jun 22, 2006

Cable and Wireless plc, the operator of Bulldog Broadband, has announced a new corporate strategy aimed at providing wholesale products to major broadband service providers.

In line with this new strategy, the company is holding discussions with a number of potential customers for wholesale services. Starting July 1, Bulldog will also stop any further proactive sales, marketing or advertising activities to acquire new residential and small business customers. However, Cable and Wireless says Bulldog will continue as a retail brand for existing customers with ongoing customer care and launch of new services.

Cable and Wireless' local loop rollout plan remains the same with a target of 800 fully unbundled exchanges by September 30, 2006. By the end of this, Cable & Wireless intends use this local loop capability for corporate customer access, in addition to the wholesale offer provided.
